Creating the Find your Focus Series

Creating the Finding Focus series was a huge, but very exciting challenge, for me! I drew on all my experience as a children’s yoga teacher, classroom teacher and parent to create a fun, professional and hugely empowering course. Lack of focus in the classroom is sighted by teachers as one of the bigger barriers to children’s learning. In an attempt to tackle this I spent half a year planning and creating this programme. I have had a few questions about how I went about creating the series so I thought I’s write a blog post in case it helps others trying to bring their vision to life or is interesting to those of you currently enjoying the series. If you haven’t signed up its a six week program designed to help children build their attention span and focus through the powers of yoga and journaling. You can find out all the details and join the program here.

In both my role as a classroom teacher and a children’s yoga teacher I have been asked by parents how to build their child’s attention span, or more commonly how can I get them to focus!? I started off with some research and found lots of scientific studies showing that regular yoga practice helped children to focus and even lead to improved academic outcomes and a notable decrease in challenging behaviours (you can see all the research over on my Finding Your Focus page here if you’d like to read more). This helped me begin to design the program. It was clear to me, from my experience as a classroom teacher, than combining both yoga and a journal with some focus building activities would be the best way for children to build their attention span. It was also clear that this would need to be an adult guided course. All the yoga classes are pre-recorded by me but an adult would need to keep track of the course and make time in the family routine for yoga and journaling. That’s why I also created videos for parents/teacher to help them maximise their child’s success.

Then I got into the fun part! Finding a venue, film team and photographer to help me bring my vision to life. The fantastic Bright Light Film videoed and edited all the content for the series and did a fantastic job. I had Shelby Sheldon’s photography behind the scenes snapping away and we were all nestled in the absolutely stunning InnerBloom Yoga Dome in the South Downs. I also had some wonderful little yogis come to join me and practice in the dome - thank you so much to all of you who came and enjoyed some amazing yoga with me!

On one of the hottest days of the year my team and I got started and worked tireless over two days to film the entire series. We were then joined by some incredible young yogis who enjoyed a class in the dome and were photographed and filmed in the process. As a group of small business owners we all worked so hard to pull it off - and I am incredibly proud of what we achieved! WAtch this little video to see some clips of us hartd at work behind the scenes to bring you Finding Focus series.
