Yoga story script - around the world

Sharing yoga stories is your class is a powerful way to engage children in the session and is also a good way to include general knowledge, a moral or theme into your class. You can read more about sharing yoga stories with children on my blog pose on the topic here.

I have been inspired watching the Olympics to talk to my own sons about the different things to see and experience around the world. This yoga story takes us around the world practicing different poses as we go. Depending on the age of the children in your group you could extend this with more learning in each continent. There are lots of fun games you could play after the story - anything where you are working together in a circle works well. Also listening to traditional music and playing yoga pose statues or similar will also be appropriate.

So - here we go!

Maya’s Journey Around the World: A Yoga Adventure

Once upon a time, in a cozy little town, there was a girl named Maya. More than anything else, Maya loved going on adventures. One sunny day, she decided to embark on a grand journey around the world. She packed her bag with snacks, water, and her favourite book, carefully twisting behind in the Staff Pose to pick up each item for her adventure.

Before beginning her travels, Maya prepared her body with some gentle stretches. She stood tall and firm like a tree in Tree Pose, feeling strong and steady. Next, she took on the persona of a brave warrior, practising Warrior I and Warrior II poses, ready to face any challenges ahead.

Maya began her journey by flying in an aeroplane, balancing in Warrior III Pose as she imagined soaring through the skies.

North America: The Grand Canyon

Maya’s first destination was the majestic Grand Canyon in North America. She marveled at the vast landscape and imagined herself as an eagle, soaring high above the canyon walls. In Eagle Pose , she embraced the spirit of the land and admired the breathtaking views.

South America: The Amazon Rainforest

Next, Maya journeyed to the lush Amazon Rainforest in South America. As she walked through the dense greenery, she imagined herself as a frog, leaping across the forest floor. She practised Frog Pose, embracing the vibrant life around her. At night, she curled up like a little child in Child’s Pose, feeling safe and snug under the canopy of trees.

Europe: The Swiss Alps

Maya’s adventure took her to the stunning Swiss Alps in Europe. Surrounded by towering mountains, she pretended to be a wood chopper, chopping away worries and fears with the Wood Chopper Breath. Feeling strong and brave, she balanced like a bird in Warrior III Pose as she climbed the peaks. At the top, she found a quaint village celebrating a festival with fireworks. She joined in the merriment, creating bursts of energy with Firework Breath, delighting in the laughter and cheers.

Africa: The Serengeti

In Africa, Maya explored the vast Serengeti, where she observed the graceful giraffes and mighty lions. She stretched into Triangle Pose, feeling like a star reaching for the sky and touching the earth. Embracing the spirit of the savannah, she practised Lion’s Breath, roaring with joy and confidence.

Asia: The Great Wall of China

Maya’s journey led her to the iconic Great Wall of China in Asia. As she walked along the ancient stones, she mimicked the slow and steady movements of a dragon in Dragon Pose, honouring the rich history and traditions of the land.

Australia: The Great Barrier Reef

In Australia, Maya dove into the vibrant waters of the Great Barrier Reef. She transformed into a playful dolphin, gracefully swimming through the waves in Dolphin Pose. Embracing the beauty of the ocean, she practised the calming Ocean Breath, feeling connected to the world around her.

Antarctica: The Land of Ice

Finally, Maya reached the icy landscapes of Antarctica. She saw a gentle but powerful hare the colour of the snow and moved into rabbit pose, embracing the chill of the frozen world. As the day ended, she lay down in Child’s Pose, feeling grateful for her incredible journey and dreaming of future adventures.

With a big smile, Maya closed her eyes and drifted off to sleep, rolling over onto her back in a comfortable laying position ready for more fun and exploration tomorrow. Her journey around the world had filled her heart with joy and wonder, and she knew that her adventures had only just begun.
